With festival season quickly approaching, we’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for the perfect mani to rock — whether we’re singing our hearts out in the desert or kicking back at a campground. Our search led us to a wavy mani that takes a little technique but is well worth the learning curve. Designed by celebrity manicurist Rita Remark for Essie’s 2018 Spring Collection, we can’t take our eyes off the playful and fun nail look. Learn how to get the look, ahead.

You’ll Need:

Essie First Base Base Coat

Essie Perfect Mate

Essie Stripes and Sails

Essie Pass-port to Sail

Essie Speed Setter Top Coat

A detail or striping brush

Step 1: To start, apply a thin layer of base coat, followed by two coats of Perfect Mate.

Step 2: Dip your striping brush in Stripes and Sails, and paint wavy horizontal lines across the nail. This should look like waves, so feel free to make them your own. Pro tip from Rita: Rinse your brush after every wave and when you change colors to ensure you get clean lines every time.

Step 3: Accentuate the crests of the waves using Pass-port to Sail. The beige color mimics the foam of the waves, giving your nails that ocean-y look.

Step 4: Finish it off with Speed Setter Top Coat.
