Here’s a fact we can all agree on: There’s nothingfun about someone hating on your look, especially when it all goes down in the comments section of your Insta feed (or in this special case, the feed of a total stranger). Believe it or not, the same applies for celebrities, who probably receive the most shade of all. Major celebrity or not, no one want to see users hating on their look, be it their hair, makeup or nails. So if you ever find yourself torn between publishing that risky, negative comment on a celeb’s latest ‘gram, we highly encourage you to think twice. Actress and Lancôme ambassador Julia Roberts just made a great case for this, as she called out an Instagram user for what she had to say about the nail polish she recently debuted on the red carpet.

Here’s what happened:

An Instagram account named The Vintage Costume Collector posted a photo comparing one of Julia Roberts’ latest red carpet looks to a similar look worn by Joan Crawford. In the Instagram caption, the owner of the account posed the question, “Who wore it better?” In response, a user commented, “Joan Crawford looks way better in my opinion more classic and refined and Julia is wearing ugly black nail polish!” From there, Roberts stepped in (just two comments later) saying, “It is in fact a navy polish with garnets crystals as a grounding accent. In case you would like to edit your comment from ‘ugly black nail polish’ to ugly navy polish with garnet crystals. Just sayin.’ 💅🏼”  *Insert slow clap here.*

Julia’s smooth comment brought in a ton of others who applauded her response. “Your reply was just exquisite. Your look is stunning and just classic. And Joan Crawford’s look is completely different from a different era. Both stunning in themselves,” comments user melshappyworld. Another commenter with the handle denwalk9 writes, “Why are you pitting two ladies together, in this day and age... THATS ugly IMO..... they both wear it well, both classic beauties and great actors of their times 🤔🤷‍♀️ @juliaroberts you go girl 👏”.

If there are two major points everyone should take away from this experience, it’s that hating on someone’s beauty look via social media isn’t the answer, no matter who you’re talking to. Secondly, youshould never, ever assume that a dark-looking nail is black — it could very well be navy.
