It’s a common misconception that foundation is the only way to achieve a flawless, airbrushed finish, and we’re here to tell you that just isn’t true. In fact, it is possible to forgo applying your favorite foundation products in exchange for a much-needed break for your skin. Whether you’re in the mood for a speedy, less-than-ten-minute routine or trying to get rid of your foundation altogether, we found the perfect tutorial for achieving a glowy, smooth look sans foundation, ahead. The secret? Your fave concealer, a good powder and lots of blending. Here’s how to get the look.
STEP 1: Brows
Fill in your brows using your regular eyebrow products, whether it be powder, pencil, gel or pomade. For a natural look, reach for a pencil like the Maybelline New York Brow Ultra Slim Defining Eyebrow Pencil and apply it with a light-hand.
STEP 2: Primer
Use a glowy primer or highlighting fluid on your skin to achieve a healthy, lit-from-within complexion. Try applying it all over your face for a radiant finish or on the high points of your cheeks, nose and temples to catch the light. We’re currently loving the NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow Illuminating Primer for a moisturized glow.
STEP 3: Lash Curler
You can go all out and apply a couple of coats of mascara, or for an “I woke up like this” appearance, use an eyelash curler alone. We’re obsessed with the cult-favorite Shu Uemura Curler for a wide-eyed, bright effect.
STEP 4: Concealer
To smooth skin imperfections and give the appearance of an even complexion, grab concealer. Apply it under your eyes and any other areas where you need a little extra coverage. Just make sure you blend it well to achieve that seamless, patch-free finish. We like the Urban Decay Stay Naked Concealer for its radiant, full coverage.
STEP 5: Highlighter
Grab a glowing highlighter and apply it to the high points of your face — from your cheekbones, down your nose and to your temples. Blend it well to ensure there are no harsh edges or lines (we like the E.l.f. Cosmetics Baked Highlighter for this).
You can stop here, or take a cue from beauty guru Desi Perkins and kick your glow up a notch by adding blush to your cheeks for a subtle flush. Then, finish off the look with your favorite lipstick and you’re ready to go — foundation-free.
