This Baby Pink Monochromatic Makeup Look Is Surprisingly Wearable for Summer

The pink monochromatic makeup look goes with summer, like an alluring deep red lip does with winter. Now, we know what you’re thinking: It’s a lot easier to rock a red lip than it is to wear a bright pink makeup look all over your face — or so you thought. This baby pink makeup trend looks fresh and can go with a variety of day and night looks. To show us just how wearable it is, makeup artist Anne Kohlhagen gave us a step-by-step tutorial to create the pink monochromatic makeup look on ourselves. Because sometimes, just sometimes, you need to be that level of extra with your makeup.

How to Create the Baby Pink Monochromatic Makeup Look

Step 1: Pick the Right Shade of Pink

Start by choosing a shade of pink that goes well with your skin tone,” says Kohlhagen. “The lip, eye and cheek colors don’t have to match exactly but they should be in the same family. For example keep blue-based pinks together and yellow-based pinks together. Even if one color is darker or lighter, it will still work together.”

Step 2: Focus on Your Eyes

After you’ve completed your base makeup — foundation, concealer, powder and all that —work on your eye makeup. “I like to use soft creams or powders on the eyes,” says Kohlhagen. Work on applying a lighter pink eyeshadow shade as a base and then blend in a slightly darker or more vibrant color into your crease. Be sure to buff out the edges of the shadow so the color doesn’t have too harsh of a line.

Step 3: Sweep on Some Blush

Now that your eye makeup is done, it’s time to move on to your rosy pink cheeks. Kohlhagen advises using soft cream products for this step as well, so you don’t over do it. “I like to use soft creams on the cheeks, keeping the look more sheer,” she says.

Step 4: Brighten Up Your Lips

“Go with a sheer lip color to match,” says Kohlhagen. “Don’t go heavy in all three places or it will end up overpowering the face. Stick with one area if you want something to pop, like the eyes or the lips.”

Step 5: Highlight, Always

While this fifth and final step isn’t crucial for the pink monochromatic color scheme, Kohlhagen does recommend it. “Add a bit of highlight the cheekbones and inner corner of the eyes for more dimension.”
