Nothing is quite as classic as the smoky eye. This look has some serious staying power, and for good reason. The smudged-shadow look always manages to take our faces from sweet to sultry in just minutes (or longer, if you’re a perfectionist). Another reason to love the smoky eye is its versatility. You can literally make this look work with a variety of colors. Don’t believe us? We consulted with some makeup pros on the perfect smoky eye looks for every eye color!

Hazel Eyes

Because your eyes feature green, brown and gold hues, it’s sometimes hard to settle on a shadow shade that will complement them best. For a stellar smoky eye, opt for an emerald green shadow to bring out all of your peeper’s pretty colors!

Green Eyes

Your jewel-toned eyes do best with other gem-colored tones. Try a soft purple smoky eye with hints of dark plum blended into the sockets for a look that will truly sparkle!

Brown Eyes

While smoky eyes are typically dark and, well, smoky, your brown eyes don’t need to get lost in the darkness! Take a lighter approach by using honey– and bronze-colored hues to lighten up your eyes and make them shine!

Blue Eyes

Your baby blues need no introduction; we can spot them a mile away. Get in on a little contrast action by using matte brown hues for your smoky eye. The earthy tones will allow your blue eyes to stand out and turn on the sizzle! Pair the shadow with a pretty nude lipstick (we love YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Golden Melon) and you’ll be good to take that smoke on the road!
