If you have hooded eyes, you know just how difficult applying eye makeup can be. The excess skin that covers the eyelids can make it nearly impossible to do a cut crease and once the makeup is on, it tends to smudge in the crease area shortly after. To help solve these makeup woes, we looked to TikTok and  stumbled on a genius hack courtesy of @makeupbyyjade. We’re breaking down the hooded eye makeup eye hack, ahead.

  • STEP 1:

    Apply Eyeshadow

First things first, apply your base eyeshadow and buff it across the entire eyelid with a synthetic makeup brush. (We’re loving the ultra-pigmented shades in the Urban Decay Cosmetics Wild West Palette and trust us, you will too.)

  • STEP 2:

    Wipe It Away

Wipe it off? You heard right. Grab a cotton swab and wet the end of it with a micellar water, like the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. Trace the shape of your crease with the cotton swab and wipe away any eyeshadow that’s sitting on your eyelid as well. This will leave you with a sharp line.

  • STEP 3:

    Work Your Magic

Now that you’ve traced the shape of your crease, continue creating your cut crease like you normally would, sans smudging. For an eyeliner that’s got staying power, look to the NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. This eyeliner pen makes drawing pigmented lines a breeze with its flexible brush tip for a smear-free finish.

  • STEP 4:

    Finish It Off

No eye look is complete without long, voluminous lashes. In keeping with TikTok trends, reach for the viral Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara that absolutely lives up to the hype. Swipe on two coats for a fanned-out effect that holds all day.
