While we’re the first ones to swoon over a colorful and intricately designed manicure, some occasions call for nail art that’s a little more subtle. Minimalist nail art can be easy to DIY but still results in a unique look. Don’t believe us? Check out five manicures below that prove less can absolutely be more.

Polka Dots

Polka dots are probably one of the easiest nail art designs to recreate at home. All you need to do is choose a color for your base (we recommend nude if you’re going for a more subtle look) and for your dots. Then, dip the end of a bobby pin in your polish and gently place the dots all over your nails for a simple and cute look.

Yin-Yang

Having one or two statement nails is a great way to transform a nude manicure. Case in point: this yin-yang French manicure.

Golden Shimmer

Nail art doesn’t have to be painted on with polish. Try nail stickers to complete your minimalist manicure. We love these tiny star-shaped stickers paired with a sheer, shimmery polish. Try Essie Good as Gold to replicate this base.

Bold and Bright

If you can’t resist going with a bright color, rest assured you can still make it minimalist. Instead of painting the entire nail, try creating small, simple designs like these abstract squiggles

Double Corner French

If you don’t have steady hands, this mani might require you to enlist the help of a pro, but it’s totally worth it. This twist on a French manicure can be done with any colors of your choice to add a pop color and do a playful take on a classic look.
