While I think we can all agree that low-rise jeans are best left in the past, I’m happy to report that crimped hair has officially made its way back onto the beauty scene. That’s right — the voluminous, zig-zag hairstyle is just as cool in 2020 as it was at the middle school dance. So dig up your old crimper and find some butterfly clips, because we’re sharing a few of our favorite ways to style the wavy look, below.

Sleek and Chic

Not ready to go all the way back to your ’90s style? Give the crimped ’do a modern upgrade by recreating this look. Make a super sleek and straight ponytail with just a few crimped pieces scattered throughout.

High-Volume Hair

This look brings back all the memories. From the face-framing layers and large-barrel crimps to the gold cuff holding back the ponytail, everything about this hairstyle is a win. It’s so versatile that it can take you from your workout to dinner with friends in an instant.

Mix and Match

Bouncy, beach waves are in our comfort zone, so adding a little crimping action into the style isn’t intimidating. If you’re looking to switch up your hair color, this icy purple is something to consider, too — we’re obsessed.

All or Nothing

If you have a lot of hair or naturally curly hair, take some inspo from this look. You can add various crimps to your  natural curls or do your whole head using a large plate.

Braid It Up

Want to give your polished updo a bit of edge? Crimp your hair (all of it or just a few pieces) before braiding and twisting. It’ll give some texture to your style.

Pretty in Pink

This look is not only stunning (can we talk about the pink!?), but it also fully embraces the crimped trend. To get more volume, switch out your plate sizes as you work through your hair.
