Makeup wipes have gotten a lot of flack in recent years and although I’ve tried a few different alternatives, I'm still a stan. In my opinion, cleansing balms and oils can only do so much to remove stubborn makeup. When I wear waterproof formulas (which is pretty often), I rely heavily on makeup removing wipes for an effective, yet gentle, double cleanse

I had the opportunity to try out the new CeraVe Hydrating Makeup Removing Plant-Based Wipes courtesy of the brand. Keep scrolling to find out what makes these wipes so special and why you should shop them ASAP.

About the CeraVe Hydrating Makeup Removing Plant-Based Wipes

These makeup wipes are essentially a gentle cleanser in the form of plant-based makeup wipes that can help remove makeup (yes, even the most stubborn waterproof mascaras), dirt and oil.

Thanks to a formula packed with glycerin and essential ceramides, the wipes are super hydrating and won’t disrupt your skin’s protective moisture barrier (read: cause dryness or irritation).

Developed alongside dermatologists, the wipes are non-comedogenic and gentle for use on skin, eyes and lashes. Plus the wipes are accepted by the National Eczema Association, so they don’t contain ingredients that are unsuitable for use by those with eczema or sensitive skin conditions.

It’s also worth mentioning that the facial wipes are also biodegradable and can be composted at home in a compost pile or bin, which, according to the brand, helps reduce the volume of household waste and the amount of greenhouse gasses that enter the atmosphere in landfills.

What You Can Expect

One of the reasons makeup wipes are so controversial is that a lot of people think they don’t get deep into the skin and clear out pore-clogging residue. I’m of the opinion, however, that makeup wipes are the perfect opening act for the skincare routine that follows.

I like to use the makeup removing wipes when I need to remove makeup and dirt before my nighttime skincare routine. I open up the pouch and pull one plant-based wipe out and gently wipe it across my face. I make a point to be as gentle as possible when dragging it across my skin – too much pressure can make me look red.

Once I’m finished removing my makeup with a wipe, I put it to the side so that I can throw it in my apartment building’s compost bin when I’m finished. Then, I lather on the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser to give my skin a deep, thorough cleanse that gets into my pores and grabs anything that the wipes may have missed.

Then, once my face is completely free of makeup, oil and other pore-clogging debris, I continue with the rest of my skincare routine before heading to bed.

My Final Thoughts

These wipes are extra special because they gently remove makeup, dirt and oil quickly and in a convenient way. They don’t leave behind a trail of redness and irritation like other wipes that tout themselves as eco-friendly.

It seems like every time a new CeraVe product comes out, it goes viral and flies off of shelves everywhere, and in my opinion, this one will be no different. Mark my words, these makeup wipes are going to be huge, and honestly, might convert cleansing balm loyalists into makeup wipe lovers once and for all.
