A good lip balm can help deliver moisture, softness and soothing benefits to your lips, but different seasons, climates and situations call for different formulas. For example, during the day we cling to an SPF-infused formula, at night we prefer a clear option to avoid destroying our pillowcase as we sleep, and in winter, we reach for more hydrating options that offer a bit of color to help revive the look of dry, chapped lips. Tinted lip balms are the perfect solution for when you can’t bear the thought of sacrificing lip color for extra hydration. Keep reading for some of our favorites.

IT Cosmetics Pillow Lips Solid Serum Lip Gloss

I’m a glossy girl through and through, so when IT Cosmetics launched this lip balm-meets-lipstick-meets-lip-gloss hybrid, I knew it was going to be a staple in my winter makeup routine. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, oils and collagen, it cares for and moisturizes my lips like a balm while still offering a bit of color and a shiny finish. I also love that it's available in eight colors, including soft pinks that are perfect for every day and bolder berry tones for when you want to make more of a statement. —Genesis, Assistant Editor

Lancôme L’Absolu Mademoiselle Lip Balm

With its sweet vanilla scent and cooling minty-fresh effect, this tinted lip balm is my winter addiction. It contains macadamia oil to nourish and cushion lips and has a shiny and surprisingly pigmented finish. It's the product I always reach for before a video meeting when I have just a few minutes to look more put together. I also love that it comes in a range of colors from clear and soft pink shades to rich berries and reds. It’s impossible to pick just one. — Sarah, Senior Editor

YSL Beauty Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Balm

An ultra hydrating lippie is a must-have when the weather turns cold, so I’ve been reaching for this super velvety formula non-stop. It’s infused with nourishing oils, pomegranate extract and macadamia butter to protect the delicate lip skin and hyaluronic acid to retain moisture. I love that it comes in more than 20 (!!) shades and gives buildable color — allowing you to layer up for a more saturated finish or keep it minimal for a more subtle one. — Alanna, Assistant Managing Editor

Fresh Sugar Petal Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 15

As someone who struggles with perpetually dry lips no matter the season, I always reach for a product that will keep my lips hydrated and soft. Bonus points if it has a pigment. While not only providing me with a touch of color to top off any makeup look, this balm is filled with moisturizing ingredients like sugar and grapeseed oil to make sure my lips stay hydrated all day. My favorite part? The SPF 15 to prevent my lips from drying out even further when exposed to the sun. — Caitlyn, Assistant Editor
