The Best Hairstyles for Your Beach and Pool Days This Summer

While we love the warm weather, the feeling of heavy hair on our neck is less than desirable in the summer heat. Thankfully, there are a ton of fuss-free, super easy hairstyles you can do in five minutes or less (think: fun braids, sleek ponytails and trendy top knots). So before you head out for a walk, lay in your backyard or chill by the pool or beach this summer (staying six feet apart, of course), keep reading, because we’re rounding up some summer hair inspo that’ll have you cooled down and looking cute, ahead.

Summer Hairstyle #1: The Top Knot

Whether you’re minding your social distance at the beach or happen to have a backyard pool, this style is a no-brainer for anyone taking a dip. Piled neatly and securely atop your head, the top knot takes all of two minutes and is water-friendly. Need some pointers? Check out this tutorial.

Summer Hairstyle #2: The Braided Crown

If you want an easy hairdo with a flirty twist, this style is the way to go. It definitely takes a bit of effort but makes for a fabulous summer selfie. We weren’t quite sure where to start with this braid at first, but this tutorial from Kayley Melissa made recreating the look beyond easy.

Summer Hairstyle #3: The Fishtail Braid

This look has the practicality and ease of a basic braid with a slightly hipper edge. Quick tip: After a shower, put your hair into a side fishtail braid and allow it to air dry. When you unravel the braid, your hair will be styled in beachy waves, no heat necessary. Want to take things up a notch? Give this Dutch fishtail braid by Shonagh Scott a go.

Summer Hairstyle #4: The Sleek Pony

A sleek pony is an easy, practical option that we love for an outdoor workout. Work a little gel into the hair on the top half of your head before gathering it into an elastic band — this will keep it sleek, just like this look by Claire Ashley. If you want to mix it up (and your hair is long enough), braid the pony for a little added cool factor.
