Some guys may have been rocking a bold eye for years, but if you’re just getting started and want a more natural-looking approach to men’s makeup, we’ve got you covered. A little brow gel, concealer and setting powder are all you need to achieve the no-makeup makeup look, conceal any blemishes or dark circles and minimize the look of pores. Here, celebrity makeup artist Billie Gene is breaking down an easy and quick makeup routine for men.

STEP 1: Prep the Skin

Evening out skin texture starts with skin care. It’s important to make sure your skin is hydrated before applying any makeup to avoid patchiness or flaking. One of our favorite products is the Baxter of California Oil-Free Moisturizer, which is lightweight and doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue.

STEP 2: Spot Treat

According to Gene, the biggest secret to the no-makeup makeup look is to forgo a full face of foundation and instead spot treat areas of redness, blemishes and dark circles. He suggests using your finger to blend rather than a brush for a seamless look. Another tip? Leave a little dark shadow under the lash line for a defined yet a no-makeup appearance.

As far as texture is concerned, Gene cautions against using formulas with an ultra-matte or dewy finish and instead suggests trying to find a product that matches your skin’s natural feel. One drugstore option we love is the Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer

STEP 3: Spruce Up Your Brows

Next up? Brows. Groom brows using a clear brow gel like the NYX Professional Makeup Control Freak Brow Gel. This will keep your brows tamed throughout the day without adding any color. If you do opt for a brow pencil, Gene suggests just filling in sparse areas — don’t change the shape.

STEP 4: Moisturize Your Lips

Chapped lips are uncomfortable — and inevitable in winter if you don’t have a nourishing balm by your side. To keep your lips hydrated (and add subtle shine), reach for the Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1, which soothes and smooths dry lips. Layer on more before bed for added hydration.

STEP 5: Use a Setting Powder

The final step of a natural-looking makeup routine is to lightly dust your face with a blurring setting powder, like the Maybelline New York Lasting Fix Banana Powder. It gives a soft-focus effect and brightens the complexion.
