Burnt orange is the color for fall, popping up everywhere from lipstick to shadows (looking at you, Urban Decay Naked Heat!) and everywhere in between. We love this look so much we want to wear it all over our faces — and beauty junkies agree. We’ve been seeing monochrome makeup all over the place lately, and we’re not mad at it. But how do you pull of one color without looking silly? Enter: the monochrome makeup tutorial. We chose to marry our two favorites — burnt orange makeup and monochrome — for a look that you won’t be able to resist. And we explain how to tweak the look depending on your skin tone.

Get the look, ahead:

You'll Need:

Burnt Orange Shadow

We like: Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette or NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element In ‘Earth

Orange Blush

Pro tip! Eyeshadow doubles as blush in a pinch. Try shadow #9 in the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Palette.

Orange Lipgloss, Liquid Lipstick, or Lipstick

Step 1: Place a burnt orange shadow on the lid and blend to the outer corners of your eye and into your crease. The key to nailing this look is blending — it doesn’t rely on transition shades so a buffed out, gradient look is essential. Bright, shimmering oranges look gorgeous against darker skin tones; muted orange or peach shades often provide enough contrast for lighter skin tones.

Step 2: Apply blush to your cheeks in a circular motion. For best results, carry the blush for the apples of your cheeks to your cheekbone above your contour. Again, you want to pick a color that really compliments and warms up your skin tone (think glow over pop of color).

Step 3: Apply a complimentary lip color to the lips. You can go glossy and high shine if you’re feeling flashy or a more matte and subdued lip for an everyday finish — we’re currently loving the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Mama and L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Lip Color in Toasted Almond.
