This Clear Quartz and Amethyst Crystal-Inspired Makeup Tutorial Is Giving Us Life

If you’re into wellness, chances are you know about crystals, have them sitting on your desk or nightstand, and maybe even wear one around your neck or wrist in some form of jewelry. These sparkly stones are treasured, not just for their sheer beauty (but they are really, really pretty), but also for their different significances and energies. Now, being who I am — a beauty editor who loves yoga and connecting with my seven chakras, as much as I love playing with products — the idea of combining crystals and makeup is exciting. So, with help from makeup artist Jonet Williamson, we created two stunning crystal-inspired makeup looks, ahead.

Clear Quartz Crystal Eyeshadow Tutorial

As mentioned above, every crystal has a significance and purpose. Clear quartz crystals, for example, are considered to be the master healer. So, to channel all of the good, healing vibes, try creating this eye-catching makeup look, ahead:

STEP 1: Start With a Strong Base

Starting with a strong silver shadow, like Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow, as the base of your look, wet your brush and blend the shade across your entire eyelid and up to your crease. Then, blend and diffuse the pigment.

STEP 2: Apply Your Glitter

Using a chunky glitter with a self-adhesive formula (meaning a product where no added glue or adhesive is required on your end), place it where you would like sparkle. Then, blend it out for a smudged, lived-in look. We used the Glossier Glitter Gelée in Phantasm for this.

STEP 3: Add More Glitter

To punch up the shimmer, layer another type of chunky glitter on top of your first application. For this, we used the Smith & Cult Glitter Shot in Iridescent. Extend the glitter out toward the edge of your lid, up to the brow bone and in the inner corner of your eye. The beauty of this look is there is no right or wrong way to add glitter.

STEP 4: Highlight With Glitter

To continue the eye look onto the rest of your face, apply a coating of glitter to your cheekbones, where you would typically place highlighter.

Pro Tip: “When you’re ready to remove the glitter, take a little piece of tape, smooth it down really good and slowly peel it away,” says Williamson. “It will take off every piece of glitter! Just follow up with micellar water or makeup wipes.”

Amethyst Purple Crystal Eyeshadow Tutorial

Amethyst, on the other hand, is a precious purple stone with a violet-lavender hue, known for purifying and clearing negative energy. To channel clean, positive vibes, try creating this eye makeup look with the following steps:

STEP 1: Start With a Matte Base

Start by using a matte purple eyeshadow as your base, like the lavender shade in the NYX Professional Makeup Mystic Petals Shadow Palette in Midnight Orchid. “A creamy or soft powder shadow formula is best because it will give the glitter something to grab onto later,” advises Williamson. Spread the lavender pigment across your entire lid and blend it out to diffuse any harsh edges.

STEP 2: Apply Your Glitter

Using a liquid eyeshadow, like the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Plum On or the Stila Shade Mystère Liquid Eye Shadow in Spellbound, smear the pigment across your lid. Once you’ve achieved your desired thickness of glitter, blend it out really sheer for a halo effect.

STEP 3: Accent With Rhinestones

To jazz up the eye look even more, apply a few rhinestones in a graphic liner shape on the outer edge of the eye. You can do this with any small rhinestones you have and lash glue.
