Chrome nails have been popping up everywhere — from the ‘gram to the red carpet — and we’re not mad at it. They’re the perfect accessory for any outfit and elevates your basic nail look. Typically, chrome nails are achieved using a special powder that creates the chrome effect by rubbing the product onto the nail. This is done in the salon (although there are a few at-home options) and can be pretty pricy. After scouring Pinterest for a budget-friendly alternative, we came across a hack that we thought was too good to be true. Using metallic shadows, you can achieve a super similar look with products you already have at home.

You’ll Need:

A black gel polish

Essie Gel Setter

Metallic Eyeshadow

A sponge tip applicator

Step 1: Apply the gel polish to the nail, and let it dry completely. We recommend black because it will help the shadow pop against the nail.

Step 2: Using your favorite metallic shadow, pat the powder onto the nail using a sponge tip applicator. Build this up to an opaque, full coverage look.

Step 3: Apply a clear top coat and allow to dry, making sure you don’t shift the shadow around.

Step 4: Use a Q-tip to clean up any mistakes.
