5 Beauty Editors Share Their Daily Makeup Routines

As beauty editors, it’s our job to test, swatch, review and be in the know on all of the best products on the market. We find plenty that we like and some that we don't, but only a select few make it into our daily makeup routines. Whether it’s a foundation that stands up to its longwear claim, the perfect shade of red lipstick or an eyeliner that helps create our signature wing, these handpicked, chosen makeup products are some of the best around. Ahead, five of our beauty editors share the makeup routines they swear by and the signature look they rock on the daily.

I would describe my signature makeup look as natural glam, which usually entails a subtle nude eye and a nude lippie that’s slightly deeper than my true lip color. To start, I reach for the Dermablend Insta-Grip Jelly Primer because it acts like a magnet for my makeup — no joke. My go-to picks for my base are the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation, paired with Maybelline New York SuperStay Concealer and the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Setting Powder on my T-zone for smooth, natural coverage. After that, I use the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer in the hallows of my cheeks and on my temples, the Lime Crime Zip Soft Matte Software Blush across my cheeks and on the bridge of my nose to warm up my face and, even though I change my highlighter daily, I’m loving the lilah b. Glisten + Glow Skin Illuminator in B. Enchanting right now. If I do an eyeshadow look, I typically stick to nudes from my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, curl my lashes and apply the L’Oréal Paris Lash Paradise Mascara. As a finishing touch I brush my eyebrows up with Glossier Boy Brow in clear and select whatever nude lipstick I’m feeling that day.

My typical makeup routine is all about a classic cat eye and keeping shine at bay. I always start with a gripping, oil-free primer like the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Oil-Free Makeup Primer to keep it all in tact. For a matte complexion finish, I always apply the IT Cosmetics Oil-Free CC Matte SPF 40 because it’s lightweight, non-comedogenic and evens out redness in a snap. Next up is brows, and I’ve been reaching for the NYX Professional Makeup Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pomade Pencil lately because it gives me the thick, pigmented finish I love — all while being handy enough to comb through my hairs with its dual-ended paddle brush. For my classic cat liner, my secret weapon is a gel formula with an angled brush. I use the Maybelline New York Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black to get a crisp, pointed wing and complete the look by lining my lower lash line with the Glossier Play Colorslide Pencil in Disaster Class for a little burgundy color. For mascara, I use the NYX Professional Makeup On The Rise Liftscara and warm up my face with the OG NYX Professional Makeup Matte Bronzer. For cheek color, I’ve been obsessed with warm-browns, so I can’t stop using Nudestix Nudies Matte in Dear Maple, eh. Not only am I obsessed with the color on this one, but I also literally cannot get enough of its creamy formula and how it sinks into the skin with a few taps, giving the most natural flush. For highlight, I always go all out with the Glossier Play Niteshine Highlighter on my temples, down my nose and on my Cupid’s bow for a super glassy, reflective finish. I wrap up my every-day look with either a nude-brown lipstick or clear gloss. Right now, Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss in Jellyfish has my heart.

My everyday makeup is a sweet spot that’s a step up from no-makeup makeup but isn’t a full-blown winged liner and bold lip. I like to start with my base by using the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Oil-Free Makeup Primer to prep my face while keeping my oily skin type in check. Then I like to go in with my foundation, which currently has been the Maybelline New York Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation in Sand. I was recently reminded of how good (and affordable) this lightweight but buildable formula is for everyday use. To highlight and cover up my perpetual lack of sleep, I like to use the new Maybelline New York Superstay Concealer in Sable because it’s creamy and easy to blend. Moving on, I like to add some warmth to my face by applying the Urban Decay Cosmetics Beached Bronzer to my cheekbones. I find that it subtly adds some dimension to my very round face shape without taking too much time. For blush, I’ve been loving the the Catrice X Eman Cheeky Blush Palette, which is a super pigmented palette with four beautiful rosy hues. I gently (and I mean very gently because a little goes a very long way) tap my brush into all four shades and dust it on the apples of my cheeks to add a healthy flush of color. I set my entire face with the Dermablend Loose Setting Powder to ensure my look stays matte and secured, and then I move onto the eyes. My everyday eyes usually consist of one wash of color all over my lids. Whether that color is a neutral, chestnut brown or burnt orange is usually up to my mood that day, but I pretty much always stick to the warm hues in the NYX Professional Makeup Modern Dreamer Palette. I finish off my eyes by reaching for the Grande Cosmetics GrandeDRAMA Intense Thickening Mascara, which I swear by for thicker and more voluminous-looking lashes. As for my lips, there is never a day where you won’t catch me without a nude lipstick. The Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick in French Kiss has been a staple because it’s a beautiful pinky-nude that’s matte and comfortable to wear. Once my pout is done, it’s time for my favorite part, which is applying the Milk Makeup Flex Highlighter in Blitzed. Finally, I go in with the Urban Decay Chill Cooling and Hydrating Spray for extra long-wear insurance.

When it comes to makeup, I try to abide by the your-skin-but-better approach. I avoid all things cakey, heavy and matte and instead gravitate toward everything dewy and illuminating. First things first: a dewy primer. My go-to is Charlotte Tilbury WonderGlow. I use a pea-sized amount all over my face — it has a nice shimmer to it that adds serious glow to my complexion. Now onto foundation. With a decent amount of hyperpigmentation, I definitely need something that will give me sufficient coverage. Recently, I’ve been grabbing Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 4.5. Because it’s more on the velvety matte side and I prefer a crazy, dewy complexion, I like to mix in a few drops of Urban Decay Drop Shot Mix In Facial Oil. Next, I go ahead and use Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Fair 01 over top of any blemishes and underneath my eyes. Once blended, I use a fluffy brush and apply my ride-or-die setting powder, RCMA Makeup No Color Powder. Foundation tends to oxidize quickly on my face and turns everything really orange, but this loose powder helps keep everything white. My base is good to go, so it’s time to add a little life to my face. First things first, brows. To just give a little extra density and shape, I swipe on Milk Makeup Kush Fiber Brow Gel in Warm Blonde and call it a day. I then blend Giorgio Armani Neo Nude A-Line Blush, a pink shade, on the outer apple of my cheek and upward toward my eye, use Urban Decay Beached Bronzer on the hollows of my cheek and swipe on Maybelline New York Facestudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Rose Gold on my cheek bones, above my lip and across the bridge of my nose. On my eyes I always use Bodyography Glitter Pigment in Eclipse (a pink, peach shade) and L’Oréal Paris Lash Paradise Washable Mascara. As my final step, I use Maybelline New York Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes in Peach Buff on my lips, and top it off with Smith and Cult HydraGloss in Dusty Mauve

No matter the season it is, I try to sneak in hydration whenever I can — even if that means packing it into my makeup routine in addition to my skin-care. TheFirst Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hyaluronic Hydrating Primer is the perfect way to start off my makeup since it has hyaluronic acid, so I don’t have to worry about patchiness or flaky skin. My absolute favorite full-coverage foundation is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I have rosacea and keratosis pilaris on my face, so this gives me great coverage without any additional color-correcting. Since I am naturally rosy, I go subtle with blush. Cover FX's Monochromatic Blush Duo in Soft Peach is buildable yet still has pigment and a gorgeous finish –– peach will always be my fave shade. I’m not one to skip out on a good gloy moment, which is why Stila Heaven's Hue Highlighter in Kitten is my ride-or-die highlighter. And bonus: it goes on *so* smoothly. I like my eyebrows sculpted to perfection and Maybelline New York TattooStudio Brow Pomade in Soft Brown gives me a great texture to work with while still keeping my brows natural-looking. I’m very minimalist when it comes to eyeshadow and I like to use palettes that have a good shade range so I can use it from day to night. Physicians Formula MuruMuru Tropical Days Butter Eyeshadow Palette is the perfect thing to pop in my purse so I can keep it subtle from 9-to-5, than immediately pack on a little drama for post-work activities. My eyelashes are naturally blonde so I need both volume and length in a mascara to make them pop and the IT Cosmetics Lash Blowout Mascara was a game-changer for me when it dropped. I stocked up on several tubes because I don’t plan on switching products any time soon. I’m not me without a bold red lip and lately, I’ve been into the YSL Beauty Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Stain in Grenat No Rules. It’s so lightweight (gotta love a lip stain), but still gives me all the dramatic pigment. Last but not least, I need an industrial-strength setting spray and the NYX Professional Makeup Dewy Finish Setting Spray delivers. Since I have naturally dry skin, I’ll use anything that gives me some extra moisture and glow, and this fits the bill.
