This season at New York Fashion Week, we witnessed a lot of makeup and hair innovation on the runways that we want to take with us well into (and past) spring 2020. Between ’70s disco glam, mod manicures and neon eyeshadow shades, every look encompassed a new, rule-breaking spin on old makeup trends that we simply can’t get enough of. Cool-girl pastels just got a whole lot cooler thanks to this eye makeup look from Erin Parsons at Alice + Olivia. The Maybelline makeup artist combined Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Chill Girl to create poppy pastel shades that make us want to wear the softer hues year-round.

Guido Palau’s inspiration for Marc Jacobs SS20 came from the characters inspired from each ensemble. “Some [characters] are from another era, some nods to the ’70s, ’80s, nods to now, and we build the hairstyles around each of these distinct personalities,” he says. It’s true, a lot of the styles featured everything from 1980s glam volume to Shirley Temple curls, which makes us want to travel back in time for our hairstyle.

It’s absolutely no surprise that Christian Siriano gave Erin Parsons a “painterly” directive for his SS20 collection — and boy, did she deliver. Parsons blended out eyeshadows and the Maybelline TattooStudio Longwear Gel Pencil Eyeliner to create a watercolor finish that almost looked like she created it with paintbrushes. This look seriously had us wanting to trade in our shadow brushes for fine-tipped paint bristles.

Betina Goldstein for Essie at Kith
Redefining the French manicure has been done time and time again, but the way Essie artist Betina Goldstein applied it at Kith’s SS20 had us taking notes. Instead of lining just the tip of the nail, she used Essie Blanc to create a curved line on the tip and the cuticle for a totally modern, graphic take.
Diane Kendal for Maybelline New York at Jason Wu
Bleeding eyeshadow into blush might just be the new draping technique to take with us from the Jason Wu SS20 show. Diane Kendal for Maybelline used a variety of colors from the Lemonade Craze Palette to achieve the pinky-peach and yellow neon finish, and we can’t help but want to replicate it next time we’re up for pushing our beauty boundaries.
