My love of fragrance started with fresh, watery scents (which I later learned are called “aquatic” perfumes) a little over a year ago, and since then, I’ve been determined to find scents I love in every fragrance family, from gourmands to florals. Recently, I had the opportunity to test a scent in the latter category: the YSL Beauty Libre Absolu Platine. The newest iteration of the cult-classic Libre is described as a “floral fragrance with lavender, orange blossom and musk accord.” Read on to discover more about the scent and how it wears throughout the day.

Review of the YSL Beauty Libre Absolu Platine

As an absolute, this perfume has the highest concentration of fragrance oil out of any of the other scents in the YSL Beauty Libre line. That means that it not only smells stronger and more noticeable with just one spray, it also has increased projection and lasting power, especially if you apply it to your hair and/or clothes. On my skin, the note that stands out the most in this fragrance is the orange blossom, which opens up in the most addictively creamy, sophisticated way. The orange blossom note remains present in the scent’s drydown, but it tangles with the musk accord, which became more present the longer I had this fragrance on. The lavender is well-blended and subtle, only appearing in a subtle herbal quality that I find myself really having to sniff for.

If you have a formal event to attend, especially on a winter night where you’re wrapped up in leather, fur or equally glamorous fabrics, this is the perfume you’ll want to reach for. My partner lovingly refers to this as my “sophisticated lady” perfume, because it smells so elegant and refined. That doesn’t mean it can’t be worn during the day, though — again, I find that this pick really shines in colder weather no matter the hour you apply it.

The lasting power of this scent is incredibly impressive — it lasts well over 12 hours on my skin and hair, and sometimes I’ll even catch a faint whiff of it the next morning if I fall into bed without a shower the night before.

If you’re looking for a scent that will last through an entire night out (and possibly into the morning, depending on the plans you have in store), this is one to try. It’s alluring, mature and, as is to be expected with YSL Beauty, housed in a stunning bottle that’s made for display.
