Matte lipsticks have never really been my thing. And given my obsession with all things high shine and shimmer, I’m definitely more of a lip gloss girl. I’ve accumulated quite the collection to prove it. From straight-up sparkly toppers to creamy formulas, I’ve tried nearly every gloss out there. That’s why when Maybelline New York, from our parent company L’Oréal, sent over a complimentary sample of their new Lip Lifter Gloss, I couldn’t wait to get my hands (and my lips) on it.

With my status as a self-proclaimed lip gloss connoisseur, I have a fair share of criteria that my glosses need to meet in order to make their way (permanently) into my stash. I require hydration, I crave a little plumping action and I need genuine color payoff because I don’t typically like to layer lipstick underneath. Keep reading to find out if the Lip Lifter Gloss made the cut.

My Review of the Maybelline New York Lip Lifter Gloss

The first thing I noticed was the chic packaging. It looks so luxe that you would never believe it costs just $8.99. That said, I’m definitely not complaining! I chose the shade Amber, an orange-y peach that’s perfect for summer.

I like that the gloss has a pretty large doe-foot applicator. As soon as I glided the wand across my lips, I noticed how hydrating the formula was. The gloss is formulated with hyaluronic acid, so I wasn’t shocked at how moisturizing and soothing it felt. My tight and dry lips felt instantly at ease. As I rubbed my lips together, I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency. I’m not a fan of clumpy, sticky glosses and the Lip Lifter Gloss felt silky and nourishing. After a few seconds, I noticed a bit of tingling too. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but I definitely knew the plumping action was at work. So far, so good.

Next up was the mirror test. Would my lips look plumped? And, would the color really show up? As soon as I turned my head and faced the mirror, I was instantly sold. The gloss made my pout look supple, shiny and noticeably fuller and plumped. Plus, the peachy shade is amazing. It’s not a sheer, colorless glaze; it actually has a legitimate color payoff. I’m officially obsessed. This gloss checked off all my must-have boxes and I’ve been reaching for it on repeat all summer long.
