Lip crayons are a beauty guru’s secret weapon. Not only do they make for easy application and remarkable pigmentation, they’re comfortable, too — which is really all we can ask for in a great lipstick. When the new L’Oréal Paris Infallible Matte Lip Crayons were sent to Makeup.com HQ, we just *knew* we had to see how they compared to other lip crayons we’ve fallen in love with in the past. Ahead, four editors break down exactly how they feel about the Infallible formula (available in 18 shades at $12 each). Needless to say, it lives up to its name.

Shade: Lavender Honey
I love a good lip crayon because it’s easy to apply, buildable and, most importantly, so incredibly comfortable to wear. When I first tried Lavender Honey, it was all that and more. The consistency is silky smooth and feels hydrating when applied onto the lips, and the best part is that a little product really goes a long way . If you don’t love the feeling of a liquid lipstick, this crayon a great alternative and after the color held up through a day of work, lunch and happy hour, I’d say it’s as “infallible” as it claims.

Shade: Flirty Toffee

It was nice to step out of my comfort zone (read: nude lipstick) with the Flirty Toffee Infallible Matte Lip Crayon. The deep, brick red shade stood out nicely on my light skin tone. The formula went on smooth and ultra-pigmented, meaning application was fast and easy. Despite the matte finish, it didn’t feel dry or tight on my lips like some lip crayon formulas tend to do. Another thing I can’t forget to mention is that it smells deliciously sweet, which only adds to the experience.

Shade: Smooth Caramel

I stayed far away from matte formulas for a very, very long time. I generalized matte lippies into a drying, chalky category that would make my lips feel parched and look cracked. But when the Smooth Caramel landed on my desk and I gave it a quick swatch, I actually didn’t want to immediately reach for the makeup remover. It was surprisingly hydrating and creamy. Plus, I could actually rub my lips together and feel a smooth, soft texture. I have to say, I think the Infallible Lip Crayon has made me a matte lipstick convert.

Shade: Spice of Life

I don't wear red lipstick (or any lipstick) very often, and when I do, I'm really selective about the reds I wear. The thing that made me a little nervous about this color is that it's actually a little lighter than the outer packaging suggests, but it ended up applying really smoothly and looking better on me than I thought it would. I'm pretty sure I'd wear this again if the right occasion called for it.
