UV rays are typically frowned upon in our book, but colorful ultraviolet eye makeup is another story. Ultraviolet colors span from icey blue-pinks to magenta hues and electric purples, and this look by Luciphyrr on Instagram makes a great case for wearing them all together. Ahead, Melissa San Vicente-Landestoy, Makeup.com’s art director, recreated the style and explains how to try it at home.
  • STEP 1: Prime the Eye

To ensure that your ultra-cool shadows last, priming your lid, crease and brow bone is key. Here, San Vicente-Landestoy used the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Waterproof Concealer. Make sure to ring the concealer out to the cheekbone, toward the inner corner of the eye and underneath the lower lash line.

  • STEP 2: Create Your Shape

Use a frosty blue shade like Euphoric from the Urban Decay NAKED Ultraviolet Palette to line the lash line, and tug it out as if you’re going to create a wing. Be sure to use a small, tapered brush to get the look. Next, go in with a fluffy brush and blend the line you just created out and down, underneath the lower lash line. Smoke out this entire section with your brush.

  • STEP 3: Layer Your Purples

Now tap a lilac shadow (she used Optimize from the Ultraviolet palette) over the line you just created. This will add opacity and dimension to the look.

  • STEP 4: Add Your Contrast Shade

Next, pick up a shimmering hot pink shadow like Warning with a super fine, tapered brush and apply it from the inner corner up toward your brow. Extend your line along the brow hairs to elongate the eye.
