Creating the makeup for Paris Fashion Week looked a little different this year for Val Garland, the L’Oréal Paris Global Makeup Director. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was tasked with designing all the beauty looks virtually from her London studio. Even though the concepts were dreamt up on face charts rather than real models, the makeup still came to life on the runway. Here, we spoke with Garland about her L’Oréal Paris looks from Paris Fashion Week — and how to recreate them at home.

The Graphic Tick

Here at Makeup.com, we love a graphic eye and this blue-green design is no exception. “It’s the ultimate wing-eye aesthetic, just keep the rest of your makeup fresh and simple to pull off the look,” says Garland. “To create this trend at home, use the L’Oréal Paris Matte Signature Liquid Eyeliner.” She recommends lining the inner corner to the mid-center of the eye with a one color, like green or gray, and then blending it with a cobalt blue hue used for the outer wing.

The Copper Smokies

“The ‘copper smokies’ look is about having a monochromatic edge to your makeup,” says Garland. “Use a tonal harmony of burnished metals all from the same family.” When doing this look at home, the key is to use around two to three different tones and layer various textures. Garland recommends starting off with the L’Oréal Paris True Match Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops as a base across the entire lid.

The Glamour Nude

For a runway look that is totally wearable, try recreating this skin-first look. “To create this perfected skin, you’ll spend most of your time on the complexion to create an airbrushed look,” says Garland. For lightweight coverage, try the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation. It gives a dewy, hydrated and plumped appearance that still looks like skin.
