While many watch the runways for clues on what to add to our closets for spring (flowy, romantic dresses anyone?), it’s also the best place to look for nail inspo. This year we saw a few of our old faves with a fresh new spin and bold hues you’ll want to rock all year round. See our favorite spring nail trends, ahead:
Red, White, Blue and Nail Art, Too!
The runways were rife with patriotic reds, whites and blues — from Veronica Beard’s bold red claws inspired by Mexican architect Luis Barragán to Monse’s nautical inspired white nail art. Essie manicurist Rita Remark was inspired by sails and used their iconic design to create playful lines and thick stripes of white — a look you can totally recreate at home. Pro tip? Create the thin line using an angled eyeshadow brush — just make sure you wash it thoroughly before using on your eye.
To get the iconic reverse French manicure featured at Veronica Beard, use two coats of Essie Really Red followed by a stripe of Bachelorette Bash at the base of the cuticle for a dimensional nail look. For the Monse Mani, apply one coat of Mademoiselle to brighten up the nail and a strip of Essie Blanc to create the sail-inspired look.
Negative Space Nails
Negative space nails continue to dominate the nail art game, and we’re not mad at it. We saw popsicle-dipped nails at Rebecca Minkoff and bold, sparkly manis at Opening Ceremony that featured the peekaboo design. Negative space is an easy way to play with color and sparkle, so the options are truly endless
The star of this nail look is the sparkly overlay, courtesy of Essie Summit of Style paired with the iconic Essie Licorice. It’s a perfect look for the person who can’t resist a moody nail but still wants something that feels a little fresh and fun for spring. If the half-dipped nails at Rebecca Minkoff are more your speed, try one coat of Essie Skinny Dip paired with Essie Stop Drop And Shop on the top half of the nail.
Acrylics were everywhere this season (cue the iconic Versace x Kith mani), so we’re calling it now — long nails are in for spring. Paint your long claws a solid shade like Essie Really Red or try something a little more fun and go for a crazy nail art design. You have all that nail space after all — use it!
The Updated French Mani
Whether it was upside down like the bold Veronica Beard nail or subtle and layered like the Kith x Tommy Hilfiger Collab, we saw the French mani on quite a few runways. We’re excited to see this classic look return in an updated fun way for Spring — especially if bold colors are involved.
Pretty in (Sheer) Pink
The nails at Kate Spade and Brandon Maxwell had one thing in common — pretty pink hues that feel elegant yet subtle. Lead manicurist Julie Kandalec paid homage to the late designer at Kate Spade who left “sparkle wherever she went,” pairing one coat of Essie Skinny Dip with a sparkly top coat for an understated but fresh look.
The mani for Brandon Maxwell was created by lead manicurist Rita Remark — the goal to create a look that feels “minimal effort but still flawless” and inspired by Texas Youth. It’s an easy look to try at home — just apply two layers of Essie Sugar Daddy and let dry.
