We love a great red lipstick, but what we love even more is hoarding all different kinds of red lippies with various undertones and textures. Mastering the technique of styling a red lip, though, is a whole other makeup feat — which is why watching tutorials on the subject is extremely helpful for even those of us who wear the crimson shade often. Ahead, find four makeup tutorials that make applying the red lip *that* much easier, with some new, modern takes and breathtaking finishes.

The Maximalist Red Lip

Nazanin Kavari gives makeup maximalists major inspiration with this dramatic makeup look — with a rich red lip as its star. After lining her lips with an intensely pigmented liner, she fills in a few lines to get the shape down. Next, she adds a red matte liquid lipstick on top for the a flawless, budge free finish.

The Ombré Red Lip

Jarry the Worst kills it with this ombré red lip tutorial, simply because it encompasses all different crimson shades in one. She starts by coating her lips in two layers of a bright red liquid lippie. After it dries, she reaches for a burgundy liquid lip shade and lightly lines her lips with it, going back in with the bright red on the center to create the two-tone effect. To make it appear even more gradient, she then lines her lips with the NYX Slim Eyeliner in Black and blends it out to complete the ombré finish.

The Glossy Red Lip

To complement her soft gold eye makeup in this tutorial, Madison Pajaro applies a breathtaking glossy red pout. Working with the Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer in Classic, she swipes on two coats, using the doe foot applicator to trace along her lip lines. This glossy red shade stands out because it’s not too bright or too dark — rather, it’s the perfect happy medium red tone with major shine.

The Matching Red Lip + Eye

Youtuber CurlsfotheGirls gets incredibly creative in this red lipstick tutorial, where she uses the same liquid matte formula to create her cat eye and fill in her pout. She starts by putting the cardinal lippie on a small angled brush and lines her upper lash line, winging it out. Next, she applies the same formula traditionally on her lips — and there you have it, a two-in-one look using a single red lippie.
