I’ve been loving the fruit-inspired makeup looks that have been trending on Instagram lately. Whether it’s an abstract look with bright, fruity colors or a more literal representation (shout out to this lemon eye look I tried), I’m always game to play and experiment. My latest challenge was what I’m calling strawberry eyes. The look is inspired by one I found on @isabelle.de.vries’s feed that’s completely captivating. Here, I’m sharing how I recreated it and my honest thoughts on difficulty level, wearability and more.

How to Get the Look

STEP 1: Lay Down Your Base

I started with my face makeup first. I used the Tula Brighten Up Smoothing Primer Gel, which beautifully minimizes my large pores, and then followed up with the Giorgio Armani Neo Nude Foundation. Then I applied bronzer to add dimension to my face. I kept it pretty light because I didn’t want the bronzer to distract from the eyes.

STEP 2: Apply the Eyeshadow

I applied the L’Oréal Paris Brilliant Eyes in Blush Jewel all over my lid. I found that the shimmer and pigmentation really came through and the formula dried quickly so I didn’t have to worry about it smudging or looking messy.

STEP 3: Apply Falsies

To finish off the eyes, I applied the Isabelle De Vries Ayshia Lash, which are bright red, voluminous falsies. Admittedly, this lash looked intimidating to apply at first glance, but the lash band is flexible and easy to maneuver.  Tip: If you really struggle with lashes, try applying the lash glue on your eyelid instead of the lash band so that you can easily place your falsies exactly where you want them.

STEP 4: Finish With a Lip

I decided to match my lip to the bright red falsies to complete the look. I used the YSL Beauty Tatouage Couture Velvet Cream Liquid Lipstick in Rose Dissident

Final Thoughts:

This look was so easy to recreate because it only required one eyeshadow shade and lashes. In terms of wearability, this look is completely out of my comfort zone and I don’t see myself wearing this on a regular day. With Halloween around the corner, though, I think it would be perfect for a flapper or strawberry-inspired costume.

Overall, the look was fun to create and it gave me an excuse to wear a bold red lip (which I haven’t done in months) and for that, I’m glad I tried it out.
