This Easy, Natural Makeup Tutorial Is Perfect for Working From HomeMay 27, 2020
We’ve been working from home for a couple months now. In that time, we’ve made the conscious decision to live in sweatpants and wear our hair in a bun on repeat. But when a Zoom conference call pops up on the calendar, it’s time to look a little more profesh and swipe on some makeup. While a full-fledged smoky or neon eye isn’t necessary, we’ve been leaning on this natural, easy and under-five-minute face beat. So go grab your makeup bag out of retirement and keep reading, because this natural makeup tutorial is a social-distancing glam game-changer.
STEP #1: Prep Your Skin
We’ve really been focusing on our skin care the past few weeks, so this step is a no-brainer. Before grabbing makeup, complete your skin-care routine with a thin layer of moisturizer. This is key for getting a glowy base. Not sure what to use? We’ve been loving the Vichy LiftActiv Peptide C Sunscreen, which doubles as a moisturizer.
STEP #2: Do Your Base
Apply a light- to medium-coverage foundation or BB cream like the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation, stippling it on with a blending sponge or flat brush. If you do use a brush and want a seamlessly blended finish, go over your face with a damp beauty sponge to ensure there are no streaks or lines. Next, pat concealer under your eyes (we recommend the NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow! Concealer). Choose a color one to two shades lighter than your foundation to brighten up the under-eye area and cover up any discoloration and dark circles. For a more luminous look, apply concealer to your forehead, the bridge of your nose and chin as well — then blend.
STEP #3: Add Color to Your Cheeks
To give yourself a little color before hopping on Zoom, sweep blush onto the apples of your cheeks to give your face a nice flush. For a natural finish, you’ll want the blush to look soft and diffused, so we recommend an easy-to-blend formula like the Shu Uemura Fresh Cushion Blush or the Maybelline New York Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush. Then, warm up your skin tone with a bronzer of your choice. Apply this under your cheekbones and along your temples and jawline.
STEP #4: Don’t Forget Your Eyebrows!
Use a spoolie to brush up your brows, and then fill them in with a brow product. Powders give a diffused, natural look while pencils are more precise. We recommend the NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil for most brows — it makes creating hair-like super simplee.
STEP #5: Add a Touch of Eyeshadow
While this step is totally optional, we love adding some neutral shades to our eyelids. Our go-to palette? The Maybelline New York Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette. Then, apply a single coat of mascara to the top and bottom lashes and be sure to wiggle your wand vertically to get every single lash.
STEP #6: Finish With a Tinted Lip Balm
Finish this easy, natural look with a pink or nude lip gloss or lip balm that complements your skin tone. We’ve been loving the Lancôme L’Absolu Mademoiselle Lip Balm. It’s super nourishing and gives the perfect subtle tint.
