New Year’s Eve Makeup Look: Ring in 2021 With a Raspberry Glitter Eye
December 28, 2020When it comes to New Year’s Eve makeup, glitter-on-glitter looks and metallic smoky eyes aren’t the only options. A colorful look, like the sparkly raspberry eye featured in the video below, is a great candidate for the occasion. After all, considering the year we’ve had in 2020, an endorphin-boosting, bright shade of eyeshadow is just what we need. To learn how to try it for yourself, watch as Melissa San Vincente, Makeup.com's very own art director creates the look step by step, and then keep reading for the full tutorial.

STEP 1:
Prime Your Eyes
Give your eyelids a smooth, clean base with a primer like the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer. This will also help make the eyeshadow pop.
-
STEP 2:
Add Lavender Eyeshadow to the Outer Corner of Your Eye
Use the lavender shade in the second row of the NYX Professional Makeup Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights and apply it directly onto the outer corner of your crease. You’re going to want to diffuse the shadow using windshield-wiper motions so that it eliminates any harsh lines and acts as a soft transition color all over your crease. Then, using the same color, use your finger to tap the shade onto the center of your eyelid.
-
STEP 3:
Add a Darker Hue Into Your Crease
Next, use the darker purple in the same palette and apply it to the crease of your eyelid. To really amp up the intensity, go back in with more shadow to give your crease more depth and dimension.
-
STEP 4:
Apply Glitter to the Center of the Eyelid
Now for the fun part. Use the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Pyro and apply it beginning at the lash line, all the way up to just under the crease so that it covers the entire surface area of your center lid. Be sure to clean up any fall-out under the eye with a makeup wipe.
-
STEP 5:
Define the Lower Lash Line
Keeping with the purple tones, apply the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Roxy on the waterline. Then apply the dark purple shadow you used on your crease along the lower lash line.
-
STEP 6:
Add Glitter
Finish off the eyes by taking a flat eyeshadow brush and applying Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Gel in Saturday Stardust to the center of your lid.
-
STEP 7:
Apply Your Face Makeup
For glowy vibes, choose a radiant-boosting foundation, like the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Foundation + Skincare, and then apply a highlighter on the top of your cheeks, along your brow bone and down the nose. We like the Maybelline New York Makeup Face Studio Master Strobing Stick for its buildable formula and easy-to-use format.

STEP 8:
Apply Your Lip
Tie your look together with the NYX Professional Makeup Shine Loud High Shine Lip Color in Lead Everything, a bright, glossy fuchsia shade.
