3 Editors Create Bold Back to School Looks With Makeup From Ulta
As we return to school, work and in-person cocktail hours, it’s time for a makeup refresh. After all, it’s way more fun being complimented on your killer cat-eye or flawless blending skills face-to-face rather than on a Zoom call. That’s why when L'Oréal challenged some of our favorite influencers to create bold back-to-school makeup looks on Tiktok, our editors couldn’t wait to get in on the fun too. Check out the looks three of us dreamed up using beauty goodies from Ulta, and find even more inspiration using the hashtag showupbold on TikTok.

Now that we’re going ‘back into the world,’ I wanted to create a makeup look that married the minimalist makeup I was wearing in quarantine with a few maximalist details to make it pop. This was my first time using the legendary Urban Decay Cosmetics Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion and I'm a fan. It made the brand’s 24/7 Moon Dust Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy shine that much more and worked perfectly with my graphic liner. Since the emphasis was on my eyes, I wanted to make them look even bigger by applying the NYX Professional Makeup Epic Wear Liner Stick in Pure White. I’m not really into stick eyeliner because it can be a pain to get a precise line and saturated color, but this gel-like formula swiped easily onto my waterline.

This was also my first time using a mascara primer and the Lancôme CILS Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Lash Thickening Mascara Primer was a game-changer. It took my favorite mascara — Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara — to new heights, quite literally. I finished this look off with gemstones in the corner of my eyes and two swipes of NYX Professional Makeup Lingerie XXL in Flaunt It for a pulled-together pout.

Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Eyeshadow in Freak

My inspiration for this look was a glamorous alien that just landed on earth...which is sort of how I feel socializing nowadays. I went for a slick, glossy green wing using the Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Eyeshadow in Freak on top of the Urban Decay Cosmetics Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I drew the green shadow on in a winged shape with a tiny eyeliner brush, then filled it in using patting motions and a flat shadow brush. I then highlighted my inner corners with the Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Moondust Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy. For an otherworldly sheen, I swiped the Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Marshmallow Electro, a sparkling sheer gloss, all over my lids using my finger. And because I can never resist a little more color, I added the NYX Professional Makeup Epic Wear Liner Stick in Periwinkle Pop, a shimmery lavender, along my waterline. I kept the rest of the look neutral and glowy with black mascara and the Maybelline New York Cheek Heat in Rose Vibrant tapped onto the apples of my cheeks.

NYX Professional Makeup Epic Wear Liner Stick in Blue Trip

I’m a minimalist when it comes to makeup, so I’ve never usually been one to wear bright colors. But since heading back out into the world felt like a momentous occasion, I decided to go all out and wear the boldest eyeliner I could find. Using the NYX Professional Makeup Epic Wear Liner Stick in Blue Trip, I drew a line across my lids, starting at the outer corner and working my way in. I had to take a step back to admire just how much it made my blue eyes POP. Then, I grabbed the same liner in the shade Emerald Cut and traced just above the original line to create a dual-toned look. To really draw attention to the colored liner, I didn’t apply any eyeshadow. I did, however, swipe a few coats of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Cobalt Blue onto my lashes to really amp up the blue vibes. I dabbed a bit of the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer underneath my eyes to cancel out my dark circles and then locked it in with the Dermablend Professional Loose Setting Powder
