Beauty Influencer Taylor Anise Will Put a Smile on Your Face with Her Creative Feed

There are not a ton of beauty Instagram accounts that immediately put a smile on our face — but Taylor Anise of @tayloranise somehow gets us every time. Anise charms us with her gorgeous makeup tutorials that showcase trending makeup products and her contagious personality. Ahead, we chatted with Anise about where she pulls inspiration from, what her makeup bag looks like and why makeup is her happy place.

How did you get started with your makeup Instagram account?

I watched YouTube videos about makeup and hair for years, but I never thought about making my own channel until I started college and wanted something to do alongside going to school. I had a mutual friend that did YouTube, and I met her and she made it seem like it was so much fun — and the rest is history. After I started posting makeup tutorials on YouTube, I would take photos of the final look, so I started posting them to my Instagram.

Where do you pull makeup inspiration from?

I get inspiration everywhere! From the pages I follow on Instagram to Instagram’s Explore page to YouTube and even Pinterest. So many areas of life inspire me to create new looks, especially the seasons. In one of my recent photos, I did a makeup look where I used rust colors and I was inspired by fall. All of the leaves changing really made me want to do a monochromatic look inspired by the reds, browns and oranges.

Take us through the process of creating a new look — where do you start?

I always start with my base first (foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer) because it helps me focus on the eye look and how it will look once completed. I find that when I start with eyes first, I sometimes get distracted during the look because I don’t know how it will turn out.

Tell us what your makeup bag looks like on a daily basis.

I keep the following on me at all times: lip balm, eye drops, my lip color of the day and blotting papers.

What's your holy-grail makeup product and why?

Hard question, because I have so many! The Sigma Beauty Warm Neutrals Vol. 2 Eyeshadow Palette is my go-to eyeshadow palette as of late. It has all the colors I need to create a look for any occasion.

What's the last makeup product you totally demolished/finished, and would you repurchase it?

Definitely the MAC Cosmetics Chestnut Lip Pencil — it’s my favorite lip pencil of all time. I wear it almost every time I do my makeup, and it lasts a long time but I finally finished it and had to re-purchase.

Favorite song to play when you're in the makeup zone?

R&B and Trap all day!

If you could change one thing in the beauty industry, what would it be?

I would love to see a return to how it used to be years ago — less negativity. I remember I could watch a YouTube video, or see a post on Facebook and there weren’t nearly as many negative comments or “constructive criticism” that is just plain mean. The beauty community should be a positive space that people can escape to. Hopefully, we can get back to that one day.

What's your advice for an aspiring makeup blogger/influencer or artist?

Be consistent. It’s so important to be persistent in creating content because you never know who is watching and when you’ll take off. Keep posting and always be in an improving state. We all have room to improve and be better than our work from last year or even last month. Stay focused and you will make it.

And finally, what does makeup mean to you?

Makeup is my happy place! Whenever I’m having a bad or sad day, I can put on makeup (specifically a red lip or bold lashes) and feel so much better.
